Delve into the heart of the royal jelly supply chain

Royal jelly is a precious beehive product, which has always been highly coveted and is now used in the food and nutraceutical industries.

For more than 20 years, Natural Origins has developed a royal jelly coming from China, more precisely from the Jilin Changbai mountain, on the border with North Korea.

After several trips to this region, we have brought back enough images to create a video on this precious resource that we are pleased to present to you.

Our committed supply chain of beekeepers

We have chosen groups of Chinese beekeepers based on their expertise, their attention paid to the living conditions of bees and their location in these protected regions.

The respect of the environment and the flight bees are part of our commitments. In addition, our hives located in the natural reserve of Mount Changbai in Jilin, on the borders of China, are protected from pollution, pesticides and heavy metals. Our bees are not under any stress and are not subjected to any antibiotics. We collaborate with two beekeepers who work full time on 70 apiaries, each containing 150 hives.

The specificity of harvesting this marvelous ingredient provided by the flight bees to feed their queens takes place in several steps:

  • First, the beekeepers manually insert the larvae into the honeycomb.
  • The bees will then feed them.
  • Before the third day, our beekeepers carry out a long and meticulous work in order to obtain kilos of royal jelly: they collect it with a spoon! This manual harvest takes place between May and September.

Natural Origins can allocate beehives to customers who wish to support the beekeepers.

Multiple virtues and an exceptional active ingredient

Royal jelly, made up of 65% water, contains many nutrients, minerals and vitamins.

In particular, it contains a powerful natural unsaturated fatty acid, 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid, which is found only in royal jelly, endowing it with multiple benefits. Indeed, its high content of 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA), ensured by the ISO 12824 standard (see detailed requirements on our product data sheets) stimulates the body's immune defenses and prevents infections, especially in winter.

In addition to this 10-HDA immunomodulatory activity, it also displays a remarkable antibacterial action. It is also a natural antioxidant with anti-aging potential that promotes memory and cardiovascular health.

Type 1 royal jelly of impeccable quality, authentic and systematically verified

At Natural Origins, we offer different levels of 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA) up to 4%. In addition, our royal jelly is type 1, i.e. of optimal quality, as it has regulated levels of sucrose (< 3%), erlose (< 0.5%), maltose (< 1.5%) and maltotriose (< 0.5%). This also guarantees that the bees' food is exclusively natural, without glucose, and consists only of pollen, nectar and honey.

A royal jelly is considered type 2 if exogenous sugars or proteins have been given to the worker bees.

Our type 1 royal jelly thus meets the highest safety and quality criteria on the market. Our controls guarantee the absence of contaminants and treatments on the hives. These verifications and analyses at very low detection thresholds are carried out by a recognised independent laboratory.

Our royal jelly product range and its advantages

Natural Origins receives a delivery of 70 tons of royal jelly every year that you can order from September to December. Indeed, honey is collected daily from 50 hives and each one generates about 5 to 7kg of royal jelly annually. We maintain a good rotation of our stocks in order to have a minimum of 10 tons of defrozen royal jelly and 500 kg freeze-dried. Cold chain compliance is guaranteed for our entire product range.

In order to meet the requirements of the market, we offer several qualities of royal jelly:

  • Conventional
  • Organic
  • Freeze-dried (in the form of powder obtained by cold drying in order to preserve the nutritional and organoleptic qualities)
  • Defrozen
